Fans of Apex Legends, the Titanfall franchise and Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order are in for an even bigger treat this year. Respawn Entertainment, the Californian developers of these classic titles have revealed that they are working on a new game that will let players keep adventuring forever.
Following the overwhelming success of their recent offerings, Respawn has gone from strength to strength. Now, they’re putting plans in place for an audacious, mysterious new game.
A Brand New IP
Respawn announced on their website that they’re putting together an incubation team to develop a brand new intellectual property. In the advertisement, they also called for a generalist software engineer. Details on the project itself are rather sketchy, but the listing did confirm that the title will use “new, practical technologies” to “enable adventuring forever.”
It's, however, likely that this title will not be related to the Star Wars or the “Fallen Order” series. The developers seem to be keen to favor a completely new world rather than continuing with established patterns that brought them such success in the past.
Respawn Is Keeping Sealed Lips
The developers themselves have been pretty close-lipped about the upcoming project. Apart from the job listing, which itself was pretty open-ended, there’s been no official word from the studio regarding a new series or game in development. Which means that there’s been quite a lot of conjecturing going on.
However, Respawn’s chief operating officer Dusty Welch gave us an idea of the studio’s planned projects in an interview done last year when he explained that they like to dabble. According to him, “Vince [Zampella] loves to dabble in all kinds of projects. His taste for game-making is not just in shooters. But look, you’ve got Star Wars out there. That’s a huge passion for Vince and I—and we love all kinds of different games. We’ll continue to think about ways to expand.”
